Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Manotick.
Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra Manotick is for ages 3 to 13, split into Tiny Champions (3 to 5) and Kids (6 to 13). Yes, that includes 3 year olds, 4 year olds and 5 year olds, who train in their own class rather than with the older group.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling art, which means there is no striking. Kids learn control on padded mats, under coach supervision, and technique is always taught at a kid-appropriate pace. Coaches match children carefully with partners and keep classes structured so first-timers feel looked after.
Is it safe for young kids?
First-day nerves are completely normal, and completely fine. A coach welcomes each child, introduces them to the group, and eases them in. If you want to know exactly how a first class runs, read what to expect at your first class. Planning something bigger? We also host kids birthday parties on the mats.
What does kids BJJ actually teach?
Beyond the techniques, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gives kids a set of habits that follow them off the mats. Parents tell us their children leave class tired in the best way, and with a smile. Here is what the classes build:
- Focus: following a coach, learning a sequence, and paying attention through a full class.
- Confidence: small wins every week that add up to a kid who believes they can learn hard things.
- Discipline: a structured room with clear expectations and plenty of encouragement.
- A safe outlet: a place to burn energy, solve problems with their body, and make friends.
One review from a parent sums up the goal well:
My son always has as great workout and a smile on his face after a class. The coaches are great!Sueng · Google review

Classes grouped by age.
Children train with others around their own age and stage, so a three-year-old is never lost in an older group. Here are the age tiers.
| Class | Ages | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Tiny Champions | 3 to 5 | Listening, coordination, and first jiu-jitsu movements through games |
| Kids | 6 to 13 | Jiu-jitsu fundamentals with focus, confidence, and discipline |
| Teens (14+) | placeholder: confirm whether a dedicated teen or youth class runs, and its age range | Contact us to place a teen in the right class |

Who teaches the kids classes?
Parents here know their child's coach by name. Coach Panda Dave leads the kids on the mats, and families describe Coach Panda as patient, encouraging and genuinely good with children, whether a three-year-old is learning to listen or an older kid is drilling real technique. Kids BJJ, answered.
Is Jiu-Jitsu good for 5 year olds?+
Yes. Five year olds train in our Tiny Champions class, which runs Monday to Friday at 5:00 PM and Saturday at 10:00 AM. At that age the session is built around games, listening and simple movement rather than sparring, and children train only with others in the 3 to 5 group.
What ages can start kids BJJ?+
Kids can start as young as 3. Our Tiny Champions class is for ages 3 to 5, and our Kids class is for ages 6 to 13. Each class is grouped so children train with others around their own age and stage. Choosing between jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai for your child? Compare BJJ and Muay Thai for your child.
Does my child need any experience?+
No. Most kids arrive having never trained before. Coaches introduce each child to the group, blend games with technique, and let them build up at their own pace. Nervous first-timers are completely normal. Parents often ask what carries over at home: how jiu-jitsu follows kids off the mats.
